Newspaper Pots Garden 2008

Newspaper Pots Garden 2008 May 30th

This is broccoli and peas. I will thin out the broccoli plants and let them grow more in the pots before putting in ground. The peas are ready to go.

Spring Frost Aaaaaa May 9th 2008

Broccoli and lettuce plants that were on my porch. The temperature dipped a little and killed them.

Spring Frost Aaaaaa May 9th 2008

I bought most of the plants in, even the peas which seemed to thrive after the frost. Our last expected frost is May 18th. Then I am going to start getting these in thr ground.

Got Started on Garden

We got going on the garden today! Iyende, Scott, and Todd went with me to pick out the seeds and potting soil. Then when we came home the boys made the little newspaper pots for our indoor seedlings. Today we did Green Beans, Collard Greens, Carrots, Beefsteak Tomatoes, Broccoli, and Basil. Next week we’ll do 6 more veggies and herbs.

Summer Garden Plan

In the ground I am doing a 3 Sisters garden (corn, beans, and squash) and everything else I am growing in 5-10 gallon containers or bigger on my balcony. This is because we have a lot of deer and other assorted fauna coming in and out of the yard and they will eat up all the garden. My container veggies will be broccoli, tomatoes, spinach, radish, onion, carrots, cucumber, eggplant, cabbage, lima beans, brussel sprouts, and sweet pepper. Maybe beets, too. Definitely herbs as well, particularly basil, oregano, parsley. and I love mint, tea made from fresh peppermint is the best! And they grow best in containers anyway. I'll do peppermint, spearmint, and orange bergamot mint. I will also try for some blueberries and raspberries this year, both in the ground and container.
