Futuristic Motherhood: Alternative Visions of Mothering is an anthology of speculative fiction stories about the future of motherhood.

Update 12/18/2010

Futuristic Motherhood is out and all author copies mailed out. You can buy the book here and also on Amazon.com here. The domain name will point to this page, at least until I can get some help with managing the site. Thanks to all who participated!

To my sincerest regret and embarrassment I have to shelve the Futuristic Motherhood project for now. I do not know when, at this point, when I will be able to publish it any earlier than June 2009. I had no back-up for a printing mishap, and am still waiting to be refunded from that printer in order to publish it through another company. I do apologize for not keeping you all updated. More info coming soon!

Update 7/3/09:

The book is almost ready to go,  I just need to get 3 more stories from accepted writers. I mislaid some stories, it has been a weird and strange year for me filled with one sob-story after another – I’ll spare you all the grimiest of the details but reasons for losing the stories includes a computer crash, lost flash drives, and my nervous breakdown.  I know I did promise June, however I loved all the stories and would like to give everyone an opportunity to get them to me again. If not in time for this printing (7/10/09) I will print them up in Futuristic Motherhood II. I got and continue to get so much interest in this project I decided to keep it going for as long as there is an interest.

The back of the cover lists all the writers, so I will post the shot of it once I get all the stories in. Also – I’m putting up a community site for Futuristic Motherhood, stay tuned!

    Trula,
I am a contributing author to the futurist motherhood book. Since you are the publisher, would it be possible for me to recieve 20 books instead of the $100 plus the 2 instead of the money. I noticed on the contract that it is stated that “Payments to writers must be made within 10 days of the publication date, and the book delivery 30 days of publication date,” and it looks as if the book is published and you are selling the book. If it would be of any help to you, it would satitfy me just to recieve the books, and it’s possible that I would order more at the 50% off the cover price. Honestly, my family and I have been excitingly awaiting the book for over a year now and would like to get them and just call it a day. I agreed and signed the contract and accepted your word as a publisher and buisness woman, however, this agreement could possiblbly be fesible for the both of us.
I know you have been busy with your buisness and store, however, please contact me asap with your thoughts or decision on this matter.
    Sincerely,
    Francine L. Baldwin

Hi Zoe, ordering info will be up ASAP, give me a few days.

Hi Francine, I actually sent out letters to writers last week, I will resend yours. I will most definitely honor the contract for the payment and the books, that would only be fair.

    Trula,
In your 2/24/09 reply you stated that, “you sent out letters to writers the week before and you would resend mine.” As of 4/19/09, I have not recieved either. Franky, I don’t know what to believe about this Futurist motherhood project, it has been nothing but excuses,(almost from the very beginning) broken promises with dates, a signed contract, lack of timely updates and poor, if any at all correspondance. I think you have been very unprofessional, laxed and inconsiderate to the contributing authors, and Yet through your site, we are kept abreast of your many other ventures and published books, which I’m sure, takes fiances to make them happen. Let’s face it trula, a printing mishap, lack of funds, extended deadlines, unsent letters or whatever the excuse might be, and there’s been a few, the way you’ve handled THIS buisness, and the time, close to 2 years without the book is a travisty, and because of this, I’m more than justified in my attitude. I can’t help but to wonder if there’s some kind of game involved or if I’m being played, especially when my SS# is involved. I guess June will tell.

    Trula,
it was with great surprise I received two authors copies of this book today with my story included. I submitted to you in 2007 and received no reply. I was about to query when I heard the book was in print and took that as my rejection. It should not have escaped your notice that you do not have a signed contract with me. What would have been the legal ramifications for both of us if I had sold the story elsewhere? Editors cannot simply publish stories submitted to them without contacting the author. They are not gifts to you. Since the horse has left the barn, please send me a copy of the contract you are using and I will see if I agree with its terms.
    Yours truly,
    Leslie Brown

  9. TF Davenport says:

Wow, Leslie, I thought I had it bad. I did acknowledge her acceptance, but I explicitly withdrew my story a year ago. Of course, there it is in the book. No payment yet, either…

    • Trula says:

Hi TF, I can take it out of the book and re-issue it for future copies…I don’t recall you wanting me to take it out. No matter, you are in the right. I will send your payment anyway also.

  10. Trula says:

Hi Leslie! sorry about the delay getting the contract to you; I just saw this. Mailing it to you ASAP. I do apologize, I thought I sent one to you originally.
