Salt Water Vs. ACV

Maine Vacation 2008 - Day 8 Kayaking, Swimming, Family Hang Out

I just got back from Maine this past Sunday where we spent 9 days on vacation. It was awesome, we had a great time. I didn't hardly swim because the water temperature in Maine is freezing cold, but anytime I got my hair wet even a little wet, like while kayaking, I washed it thoroughly as salt and my hair does not mix. I was reminded of the many controversies and arguments I have seen online about which is better for your dreadlocks: salt water or apple cider vinegar (ACV).

I think the conflict between ACV and salt may be due to how different types of hair respond to each. ACV works wonders for my hair and scalp. I had a horrible experience with trying salt water years ago, and ever since anytime I am in salt water (like I while recently vacationing in Maine) I immediately wash my hair. I am black and have very thick, curly hair.

I would suggest to anyone to just try experimenting with different things to find out what works for you. Even if you get advice from someone in your racial/ethnic group who has hair similar to yours, you may have very different results to something they tried with their dreads because you still do not have the *exact* kind of hair. There are as many different kinds of hair as there are skin shades.
