How To Stop Getting In Your Own Way Socially

Do you get in your own way socially? I sometimes do. I will give you an example. I used to assume that all the people in my town were aloof and social snobs and just didn't/wouldn't like me. So by getting in my own way I just mean by assuming that people in my town, for example, were mostly one way or didn't like me for whatever reason, I would approach social interactions with my mind already made up and thus gave off negative vibes in order to validate my beliefs. This was so I didn't have to look at anything I may have been presenting or take ownership for being socially isolated. For example when we moved to the city I live in my youngest child was close to 3. After I got my older children off to school I would often take him to the library for story time or whatever.

I already had it in my head that most/all of the other mothers there didn't like me. So when another mother ignored me or declined my offer of tea I would then take that as further reinforcement of my belief that people in my town were rude and unsociable and didn't like me, instead of choosing to see it as an isolated occurrence. Or choosing to see their responses or actions as theirs alone and not having to do with me personally.
