Breaking Through a Crisis...Just Breathe

Last night I briefly visited a community website for moms that I am a member of. I haven't been able to visit the site in a bit because of my writing and work schedule, and as I skimmed the pages of posts I have missed I noticed a lot of crisis threads. A few in particular were from mothers who habitually post negative things and in general whine and complain about their life. One mother in particular, it seems like every single time I log on she has a post up about the current crisis in her life. Seeing the latest complaining post set my teeth on edge. I mean beyond the Oh-what-a-whiny-drag-she-is stage...it was at the I'm going to post and let her know I think she is a big drag and to shut the heck up already stage. I also wanted to ask her could she go a week without complaining about something, sheesh. I doubt it.

I had to stop myself, take a moment and think about why her post set me off. I think it's because I'm having my own whiny/complaining/being a baby issues myself. I need my own dose of P*O*S*I*T*I*V*I*T*Y tonight! However a part of me still struggles with understanding the difference between positive venting and plain old useless complaining. I'm frustrated with some things right now, namely issues going on with my bookstore and worry for my sister who recently went back to an abusive man, because I am not sure how to solve them. I understand the value of just venting, but I also like to vent with an action plan. So I figured out that this woman's whining about her life tonight aggravated my nerves because she felt able to blow off steam and vent about it, action plan and/or positive viewpoint on it or no. That's a powerful lesson to me.

That said, I'm not going to set up an alias and start whining about my problems on the internet, because I'd rather put my problems in perspective and keep it moving. Things are rarely as bad as they seem. Hugs to those of you out there in crisis and those of you just struggling with daily living; that is crisis too. Life is hard but it is also a rare and beautiful thing in this universe, do you realize that? Just breathe and be happy every day you aren't underground. This moment of life is precious! Hug yourself, LOVE yourself, and feel all the love in the world back at you. Things will get better!
