Making a Comittment to Use Less Gas

I try to walk or bike ride as much as I can. Walking or biking to our jobs is not an option right now due to distance, but we can walk or bike ride when we are at home to places like the grocery store, library, post office, etc. We tend to just hop in the car to go to these places, and yes sometimes time is the issue. Sometimes, though, it is sheer laziness and we just don't want to walk.

I think about my weight and how I have struggled this year to lose 80 pounds (I have lost over 60 so far, yay!) and I realize now that had I made a commitment to use less gas before I gained all that weight, I probably would not have gained it because I would have been walking so much. Or at least not gained nearly as much. If you need something to motivate you to use less gas and walk more, consider your waistline and how walking or riding a bike instead of driving will help you lose weight and/or keep trim and fit.

I'm also going to use money to motivate me. We're saving money in order to build our straw bale house and do some other projects, so every little bit we can save helps. Making a commitment to use less gas will save us lots of money in the long run because gas is so expensive now. I'm going to keep a weekly log of how much gas I saved and translate that into dollars. Yippee! I'm excited already.
