I'm Presenting at the Allied Media Conference

It's almost about that time! It's June 22-24 in Detroit. I'm part of a panel doing a workshop on Women of Color Zines.

About the AMC:
The Allied Media Conference is an annual, weekend-long gathering of influential alternative media-makers and committed social justice activists. The AMC brings together a unique cross-section of media workers, community organizers, daring filmmakers, ambitious radio producers, serious publishers, skilled web designers, and artists whose work "makes revolution irresistible." This year's theme focuses on participatory media that transforms the producer and receiver, "Breaking Silence, Building Movements." Learn more about the AMC.

About my workshop:
Presenters: Nadia Abou-Karr, Noemi Martinez, Trula Breckenridge, Johanna Eeva

A zine is an independent publication, usually photocopied and distributed cheaply, with little or no profit. What makes this format appealing and useful for women of color? What are the obstacles faced by women of color zine-makers? Why do we do it? This session will tackle these concerns. It will be tailored to fit the needs of those in attendance, and can include open group discussion as well as a zine-making how-to guide, encompassing content, layout, printing and distribution.
