I Got Okra Started
Another crop I'm all kinds of late on, but I have started okra late June before and still got lots of big, mature pods. Okra grows fast and well in hot weather. Not surprising as it originates from Africa. I am so excited! I love love love Okra. I never liked it before I grew it myself, because it gets all slimy and starchy by the time it gets to the store or market. Okra cooked fresh from the garden is absolutely divine.
Here's a pic of some of the okra I grew last year, click to see big:

Did you know that:
- okra seeds are sometimes ground and used as a substitute for coffee?!?
- A close relative of okra, roselle, is used as a source of fiber for cloth?
- The leaves can be used to soothe or reduce inflammation?
