What is the Focus of the Womanism Section?
I started this section with the intention of having a space for black feminists to come to for support. I read other womanist blogs and found myself trying to emulate their style and rhetoric. That was not my intention either. I felt confused as to what to do. Then I remembered what was my intention in starting this blog. I realized the best way for me to go about it is to write from my heart my feelings on feminism. To share my beliefs about black feminism and the womanist movement.
I also want to explore ways we can reach out to men of color. All oppression is related and intertwined and in challenging men of color on their misogyny we need to consider the racism they live under. I feel our strength is in unity and choosing to view men of color as our allies who can choose to end their oppression against women of color. As opposed to viewing all men, in particular men of color, as our oppressors.
What do you think? I welcome your feedback.
