Prefential Treatment
“In all my years as a diversity consultant, I've never heard anyone say, ‘I'd be glad to hire a white man if he was qualified,'” says Ann Parks, a diversity consultant. “The point is you need to push people to check out their assumptions. If one assumes all white men are qualified, what does that say? If one assumes all women or people of color are not, what does that say? I've used this approach to challenge people on this subject quite successfully. Yes, it's provocative, but it helps them see what's underlying their thinking.”
