Met No! documentary director
I got to meet the brilliant and wonderful Aishah Shahidah Simmons! She is the writer, producer & director of the groundbreaking documentary No! I saw it at the AIDS Task Force of Greater Cleveland
Friday, April 14, 2006.

Moving from enslavement of African people in the United States through present day, NO! moves from rage/trauma/emotional and physical pain to meditation to action to healing where the consciousness of the featured Black women survivors of rape and sexual assault, who range in age, geographic location, and sexual orientation, transforms from victim to survivor to educator, activist, and healer. In NO! Aishah Shahidah Simmons feminizes African-American history while simultaneously addressing the rape and sexual assault of Black women and girls.
I did an interview with her a few years ago when the film was still in production. She is just as warm and friendly and down-to-earth in person as I imagined and knew from our phone interview a while back. and I knew the film would be good, but I didn't realize how awesome and powerful it would be. This is a must-see for everyone in our community; I believe this film could have a tremendious impact on the misogny that is currently rampant.
