Back Porch Closets & Garage

Today the boys and I cleared out the back porch closets. I had no idea just how much junk was up there! Just to give you an idea of the clutter: newspapers from 2003, several old broken toys like an Easy Bake Oven, a busted humidifier, a small broken hand vaccum, and lots of empty cardboard boxes. Several ancient keyboards and about a million tangled computer cords to who-knows-what. Garbage! I cleared it all out and the boys bagged it up and set it out. This was about 10ish this morning. Brian was so surprised at all the jumk too, he kind of looked stunned. He did shift through the junk, I think to make sure I wasn’t throwing out any he might need or want to keep. I told him, Look all you want, it’s all garbage, really. We ended up with 10 bags of garbage and 5 bags of recyclables from the back porch closets!!

After that they played and stuff, then Iyende got up. I told them, in a little bit we are going to clean out the garage! They said ok mom. Iyende kinda shrugged. At around 2ish I told them, in about an hour we are going to hit that garage! Iyende said, I’m going to my room in an hour. I said No, you have got to help. Then when an hour had passed, I wasn’t feeling cleaning out the garage myself, ugh. So I decided to take a walk to motivate me, go get some coffee and get charged up. So I told the kids, Hey I’m walking up to Speedway, when I get back, after I finish my coffee we are going to do that garage. They said Fine! grumble grumble.

When I got back we all had sandwiches, then I finished my coffee. I said Ok kids let’s do this. The boys went and got their jackets and shoes, and Iyende disappeared. What! So I went upstairs and stood outside her room caling her for a minute. Turns out she was hiding under the dining room table, LOL! She ran around for about 15 minutes laughing and pretending to hide. OMG, somethimes she acts like she’s 6 instead of 16. Then finally she got her shoes and stuff and we went to the garage. Brian was already out there and we started sweeping and bagging stuff up. It didn’t take long, around 45 minutes. We ended up with 6 bags of garbage, 6 bags of recyclables, and 2 big boxes of cardboard from the garage! The old furniture we set out almost immediately got picked up by what I’m assuming are second-hand furniture re-sellers. They had a big pick-up truck filled to bursting with old furniture. We set out an old rusted folded metal bed frame and a broken beach chair. They took both, which is fine by me!
