Family Time

This past Labor day weekend was so much fun! We did the 'nuclear family' hang out bit, just me, Brian, and the kids. Sunday Brian and I and the boys went to Cedar Point. Iyende stayed over a friend's Sunday house and spent the night, so she didn't come. First we went on some water rides which was cool because it was a hot and muggy day. That cooled us right off. Then Brian and Scott went on some big rides and Todd and I went on a few smaller rides and to the playground. Then we went and ate our picnic, we packed a cooler full of food.

After we ate we went on more rides, then saw 'Snoopy on Ice'. I was impressed by the quality of the ice skating, they did a fantastic job. It was a cute show. Then we split up, me and Todd went to kiddieland (I think it's actually called Snoppyland or Camp Snoopy or something like that) and Brian and Scott went off to ride all of the monstrous huge scary rides, shudder. I don't know where my kids get their love of thrill rides from, they frighten me so much. Even if I didn't have a heart condition and could go on those rides, I don't think I would want to. Todd and I rode most of the rides in kiddieland, we had so much fun.

Then we all met up again and went looking for soft-serve ice cream. The park closed at 10pm! I could not believe it, both Brian and I thought they'd stay open until midnight due to it being a holiday weekend and all. Not that we would have stayed that long, just if we knew they were going to close up at 10 we would have gotten ice cream sooner. Still, the old-fashioned ice cream place was still open and we each got big cones of sherbert.

The boys were very excited about being up so late and out and about, but were both asleep within minutes of getting in the car and driving home. Once we got home we got the boys into bed, then Brian and I hung out and talked and had a nice time, just us two, cuddling and talking.

Labor day we all slept in till about 11 then packed up and went to the beach. The water wasn't that cold but the day wasn't very hot so it all worked out. Todd kept jumping on my back! It was a trip, and Scott practiced diving all day long. Around 5 I went to pick up Iyende from her friend's house and we stopped for more snacks and went home home so she could change for the beach. She whined the whole way: "Why do I have to go?" I told her, you have been out all weeked with your friends, now you are going to spend time with your family.

Once at the beach she tried being all aloof and standoffish but then she came and sat with us. The boys came out of the water and said Iyende! Iyende! and hugged her, she seemed pleased that they missed her so. We all crowded on the beach sheet and started joking and eating cookies, talking and hanging out. We told Iyende all about Cedar Point and she told us about hanging out with her friend; what movies they watched and what other kids came over. We talked a little about politics and the meaning of Labor Day. We laid out some more then built sand castles. We didn't leave until almost sundown. It was a lot of fun. After the kids went to bed I did a little work but mostly hung out with Brian. This was a fantastic weekend! As I was at the beach with my kids and my husband I thought to myself, it doesn't get any better than this. They are my love, they are my life.
