I came across the writer
Kola Boof online a year and a half ago. She just knocked me out, she seemed so daring and vivacious and full of life. She has such a fierce love for her people! I was so astonished at the things she said and did - she goes topless on her books' back covers and lambasts people and institutions that others are afraid of - I immediately emailed her and asked her if I could interview her for my
Afro Mama. She said yes, and we began a correspondence. After the interview we kept in touch and became friends. I consider it to be an honor to be her friend, to know her. She is truly a queen.
Kola has a fatwa on her head, a death sentence for those of you who don't know what that means. The court in Khartoum has an order to behead her on sight. I think about her often...I worry about her and her family.
For many reasons Kola has been ignored and disrespected by the American media. This is a shame. Read more about her. Order her books. She is a powerful and gifted writer with an amazing message for the world.
